This Video is 6 Megabytes and Will Take Several Minutes to Load This video shows a micro-cross bow developed by Sandia National Laboratories. The device was designed to deliver a sharp mechanical blow to a microscopic device. The force generated by an electrostatic microengine is stepped up by use of a multi-stage micro-transmission. The output of the transmission is connected to a rack, which is then pulled back a 3 element cross bow. Once the device is completely cocked, it can be fired by applying an electrical impulse which blows a fuze, allowing the crossbow springs to propel the shuttle forward. |
